Ora’lea graduated summa cum laude with a master's degree in Speech Language Pathology (SLP) from Eastern Michigan University in 1997. She earned her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association in 1998. Ora'lea has more than 26 years’ experience working as a SLP and intermittent Director of Rehab in a variety of settings to include skilled nursing, acute care, outpatient rehab, pediatric clinics, and private practice.
Ora’lea demonstrates exceptional leadership skills in her chosen field, having served on both the Stroke Rehab Committee and the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Protocol Team while employed at Maui Memorial Medical Center from 2005-2010. In addition to her intermittent service at Hale Makua from 2005 to 2014, Ora’lea has also worked at several top 100 hospitals on the mainland, such as St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco and Huntington Hospital Outpatient Rehab in Pasadena, CA. Ora’lea is also a mother of 33 years old twin boys with muscular dystrophy and the founder of BLOOM.
Upon graduation with honors in Occupational Therapy (OT) from San Jose State University in June 1988, Janice has served many diverse populations in many different settings and locations. She started her career working at a residential Traumatic Brain Injury facility in Gilroy, CA., where she developed and led day programs for adults ages 18-65.
Following that, Janice spent many years providing OT services to patients residing in skilled nursing facilities.
While residing in Maui, Janice was promoted into an administrative position as Rehabilitation Director of Hale Makua, Kahului and Wailuku. Janice also served several more years as Director of Clinical Services and Area Service Manager of seven rehabilitation units in Northern California. During that time, all efforts were focused on program development, quality assurance, policy and procedure creation, and staff training in Medicare compliance.
Ten years ago, Janice embarked on a new career track providing OT services to a school district in Monterey, California. While there, Janice developed a new clinic and program for the moderate-severe population of students aged 6-22. She was also responsible for providing OT evaluations and treatments to school-aged children and young adults at several different schools in the Monterey district.
Janice officially retired in 2022, following decades of meaningful service. She is excited to share her talent, skill, and expertise helping BLOOM to fulfill its mission and vision.
